Running a small business is no easy feat—throw in three young kids, a love for painting, and a collaboration with us, and you’ve got one very busy (and very talented) artist! We recently worked with Emily Viski to create our Pups Playground collection, a bright and joyful celebration of our furry best friends. Between paint-splattered mornings and school pick-ups, she took a moment to chat with us about art, inspiration, and the beautiful chaos of balancing creativity and family life.
Your artwork is full of vibrant colours and playful pups! What draws you to painting dogs?
I love the joy & comfort dogs bring to people. I try to capture that in my artwork.
As a mum of three and a creative business owner, how do you juggle it all?
Our house is utter chaos! I have a 2, 3 & 9 year old and my studio is in our lounge room so you can imagine the level of chaos that brings. But because my paints are always out it means every spare moment I get I can be painting. And the kids just get used to living around having huge canvases out everywhere. I also paint every night once they are asleep. Also if you wait long enough everyone will just eat cereal for dinner and I highly recommend ignoring all the house work.
Did you ever expect to see your art turned into fashion?
I had the vision for the Pups Playground print in my head and it was like you had taken it straight from my brain but somehow made it better than I could have even imagined. It was definitely a pinch me moment and a total dream come true to see the collection in real life.
If you could see your artwork on any type of product (besides clothing), what would it be?
A ceramics collab with Robert Gordon Pottery!
What advice would you give to other artists looking to turn their passion into a business?
Paint, paint, paint as much as you can. Live and breathe your art. Go all in. Say yes to every opportunity before you feel ready. Put yourself out there and don’t be afraid to fail!
